Jill Borgos, Ph.D.

Jill Borgos is an Associate Professor and an MBA Academic Coordinator at the SUNY Empire State University College of Business. She has over 30 years of combined academic, clinical, leadership, and board service experience in higher education and healthcare. As Senior Research Associate for the Cross-Border Research Team (C-BERT), she has worked with the team since 2010. Borgos earned a PhD from the University at Albany in Educational Policy & Leadership, a Master of Science from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Boston College. She has held academic appointments in both graduate business and nursing programs. Her collection of research and publications spans both international higher education and healthcare; focusing on international higher education governance, organizational behavior, quality of services, risk mitigation, and distance learning. During the early years of collecting data for C-BERT she wrote a distinguished dissertation exploring the connections between social network associations and international branch campus administrative structures. As part of this work, she created a leadership structure typology for United States international branch campuses based on characteristics of the branch, including funding model, size, and board composition. Borgos is co-author of a book, co-author and author of five book chapters, and several authored and co-authored journal articles. She has also presented at the Association for the Study of Higher Education, the Comparative and International Education Society, New York State School Boards, and International Nursing Leadership conferences. Borgos is actively involved at Empire State University in governance and university service, serves on the advisory board for the SUNY Empire School of Nursing, as well as serving as the United University Professions Representative for New York State Women’s Rights and Concerns Committee.
